In Episode 32 we recap the on-off trade between the Dallas Stars and Columbus Blue Jackets while some Misery Sports Co teams continue to travel to the bottom of the MLB standings. LeBron watch is over with a surprising twist and Old Richard grabs an advertisement spot to help out devastated fans.
For more than 70 years, County Mayo has searched for an All-Ireland title while carrying one of sport’s most infamous pieces of folklore: the Mayo Curse. This week’s Deep Dive examines how a priest’s alleged condemnation of the 1951 championship-winning team grew into a legend that has loomed over every heartbreaking final, near miss, and what-if moment since. Along the way, we explore the history of Mayo football, the players who refused to let belief fade, and the supporters who continue to invest in hope despite decades of evidence suggesting they probably shouldn’t.

Misery Sports Co. Episode 32 Transcript
Hey welcome back to Misery Sports Co. If you’ve ever had the greatest player of all time, deny your team three straight times, you are welcome here. I’m Zach and I’m Trevor three times huh? I think so, I lost track, but, uh. Yeah, we’re not gonna talk about least he said yes twice. He said yes twice. Well, once because he did draft him. So he had no choice. Solid time when he was like, yes. Yeah. Got that going. Uh, we’ve actually got a little bit of a different, uh, structure here today. So we’re going to go through the weekly performance review, the mailroom and the deep dive like we normally do, but then we’re going to go to a mid-year review where we review a few of the teams that we’ve covered at Misery Sports Co and give them a mid-year rating. But before we jump into our first segment, who’s our first sponsor? Trevor, this segment of the Misery Sports podcast is brought to you by. Oh, man, I really hate to do this. Zach, we have a pretty. We have a pretty strong anti betting stance here at MSC. We don’t really dabble in that stuff but we do need to cash cash some checks. Have you enjoyed Kalki and Poly Market and want to chase the dragon even higher? Is overthrowing governments and weather predictions just not specific enough for you? Well, good news now there’s minutia chips. Simply purchase a chip at our store, which only accepts bed, Bath and Beyond coupons and place your bet on the most specific of wagers. What color tights will LeBron wear? In his first game in Philly, in which a fan says something inappropriate about a foreign player on the opposing team? Or what will be the thread count on a certain cornhole or bean bags the day he finally makes some headlines. All this and more with minutia. Chips. Minutia chips. Thank you. Very specific. Oddly specific. oddly, like almost too specific. Yeah. Well thank you. We’ll take your check. And welcome to our weekly performance review where we take a look across different leagues. Different teams could be our teams. We are a strong shareholder in Misery Sports Co, but it could be outside of that as well. We give a weekly performance review. So Trevor what do you got. Well Zach I’m going to stick with my my normal teams for this check in. Uh, it’s everybody’s favorite segment. And guess what. Now we got some intro music. I just want to know. Okay, it’s Cornell play healthy. Yeah. Guess what? He is healthy. Yes, he is healthy. That concludes this week’s segment is Carnell Tate healthy. Tune in next week to find out if that’s still the case, but it’s everybody’s favorite time. Camp is opening across the NFL. Hope is so high right now. It’s Super Bowl or bust for everybody, except probably the Panthers, who have already had two season ending injuries. But for everybody else, this is a very fun time of year. And we get to see some footage start to leak out. All of the teams. I think all of the teams do this where there’s certain parts of practice that you can take videos of and certain parts you can’t, but we are seeing some fun and exciting touchdown catches from Carnell Tate and from some other folks. Good times over in Titans camp. Robert Saleh saying the right things, winning, winning camp, win in those press conferences, he’s saying the right stuff. That’s what we like to see. Yep. Amped. I’m so excited. I did want to do a quick check in on the stars. We have not talked since. the Stars and Jackets had a dalliance where we almost we almost, uh, traded for who I think is definitely the Blue Jackets best player in Zach Werenski. There was a deal on the table to send Zach Werenski, uh, one of the top three. You could probably argue two defensemen in the entire league to Dallas for Thomas Harley, who’s a very good defenseman, uh, young up and coming on a really long what will be a pretty good value contract. And Maverick Bourque, who is a young goal scorer. Everything was in place. Hands were shook, babies were kissed, high fives were given. And then Zach Werenski decided at the last second. No, I don’t I don’t want to do this. And yanked the deal. So the whole thing fell apart. So then the stars had to go back to the players that we were going to trade and say, oh man, I know you probably read some stuff in the news, but guess what? We love to have you back and we’re excited about you being on our team this year. Sorry that we almost traded you. And then they still traded one of those players. We had to send Maverick Burke out because he was going to sign an offer sheet too long to get into here. But anyways, it was going to be a sweet ass deal. And I think I think both parties would have won. The jackets would have got two young players who are going to turn into real talents, but got yanked. Zach and I hate it. I hate it because I’ve been there with DeAndre Jordan saying we’re good, let’s do this thing. And then he went back to the Clippers. Zach it doesn’t even make sense because the Blue Jackets are like hey you know Zach you want to go somewhere. He’s like sure. And they explored some trades for him. Dallas is a great team. And he was like, ah, you know what? I think I’m just going to chill here in this dumpster fire and quote unquote win with Columbus. So on the bright side, it’s a star player that’s sticking with the team. Um, so we’ll, we’ll take it. But, uh, yeah, he’s not going to help the Blue Jackets win. We are terrible. So I may drive up just to give him the stink eye. When the stars come to town. I may make that drive. He deserves it, but that’s checking in with the stars. We’ll talk Jason Robertson next time. But, Zach, how are your earners doing? Not great. Trevor uh, not great. So the Cleveland Browns are still a dumpster fire. Uh, we’re to the point now in training camp where we’re tracking the throws of each of the quarterbacks. So Deshaun is blah, blah, blah twelve for twenty. And cheddar is this. And it’s just like guys this this benefits no one. We don’t know why they’re throwing this way. You know the stats are just they’re meaningless. And so the fans are tracking everybody’s excited about cheddar. Not excited about Deshaun but we’ll see. Um I don’t think it’s going to end the way I want it to. And so we’re just going to ride. But the you know similar to Carnell Tate uh Boston looks great. Uh Concepcion looks great. The rookies. I mean we’ve got some dudes there. They’re starting to show out but they’re going to find the reality check. I’m sure very soon in the NFL wanted to go into Major League Baseball real quick. Some of the teams we’ve covered um at Misery Sports Co New York Mets are seventeen games below five hundred at forty six and sixty three. That’s tough. They’re only eighteen games back from the Atlanta Braves. Um let’s see Colorado Rockies doable. Doable. Just keep spending money. You heard it here first. Doable. Shovel the money into the fire. Keep it burning. And the Rockies, who we covered near and dear to our hearts are twenty six and a half game back. Games back from the Dodgers. Excuse me. Uh, so we are well represented at Missouri Sports. Could. You just move some pieces and you got sixty games left? I mean, I’m not good at math, but that’s more than twenty eight and a half. Last time I checked. Let’s go. And, uh, you know, Trevor, if you and I hadn’t taken different toes from Missouri Sports Co, this wouldn’t look as stupid. Because the last episode, we had some cupcake company all but guaranteed LeBron coming back to Cleveland. They did. And it didn’t happen. Uh, so LeBron went to the Philadelphia seventy six ers. Um yeah. It doesn’t make a lot of sense on paper. I mean it does right. So they’ve got some really good players. They just traded for Jaylen Brown. We’ve got Tyrese Maxey. They’ve got broken. Joel Embiid um this whole thing was just really strange for multiple reasons. We talked about the the whiteboard right. That Rich Paul had. Yep. And Trevor he listed Darius Garland as a negative because he wasn’t on the Cavs. When Rich Paul is Darius Garland’s agent and Rich Paul wanted Darius Garland out of Cleveland last year. Oh. So word yeah he gets traded. They’re now saying oh that’s that’s a negative. But then there are literal podcasts of LeBron with Steve Nash and other people talking about how small point guards can’t win in the NBA, which we would all agree. And he specifically calls out Darius Garland. So they’re they’re making this narrative about like, oh, Cleveland, wasn’t it? I already know what’s going on. Trevor. I know what’s going on. Hear me Rich. Paul said the New York Knicks would have been it had they not won the championship. So that is the truth. I believe that I think LeBron would have gone to the Knicks. Okay. Because they because they won. He chose Philadelphia because they’re the closest to New York. The rumors are now that LeBron is going to live in New York. Yeah. He’s going to go to Philadelphia for practice games whatever. But he is going to live in New York City. That was the whole name don’t exist. The nets are garbage. Yeah. Go save the nets. The nets are a bad sir. Go save them. That’s so stupid. And I think this kind of. I didn’t want to turn it into a mini segment, but it is. When I think about Misery Sports Co, at least for me personally, and I’m sure a lot of listeners at home, you want star players who are going to stay with your teams like a. Zach Rowinski right, that we talked about with the Blue Jackets. It was it was not handled properly, but he stayed. It’s really difficult when the star player, the greatest player of all time, flip flops. He goes Cleveland, Miami, Cleveland, LA, Philly. It’s you almost want somebody that just wants to be loyal to the city. And that’s the, uh, I don’t want to say like, it’s, it’s like a romanticism, right? It’s a loyalty. And I know you had Dirk for so long. I mean, what are your thoughts on someone coming in, winning a championship and peacing out versus someone staying for twenty years with an organization? Well, let me hit you with this scenario. What if you have that person who wants to stay loyal and is planning on having another statue outside and then some dip trades him in the middle of the night for some bullshit? What? What happens then? And then the star player gets so mad that he throws his phone and breaks it in his brand new mansion in the city where you want him to stay for the rest of his life. Honestly, uh, you know, some extreme punishment there, maybe prison time. I walked into that one. That’s my bad. That’s. That one’s on me. That’s my bad. It’s fine. But you’re right. Having the star player who wants to stay. And like so many, so many things, have to go right for that to happen. Like if twenty eleven doesn’t happen for the Mavericks, I, I firmly believe the very next year Dirk would have been like, guys, I want to go win somewhere. And they would have totally honored that and let him go. So you have to peak at the right time. You have to make sure like Denver got there one, Milwaukee got there one and then he left. But like, you know what I mean? Like stuff has to go. Stuff has to go, right? For sure. And I’m not going to say that, you know LeBron and the Cavs wasn’t a great you know time. It was awesome. It was so super fun watching him. Uh they did a terrible job of you know putting players around him. That’s a whole other subject. But I wanted to leave you with one more thing. It’s from the, uh, the Las Vegas Raiders. And I would be lying to you if I didn’t say this was AI, but it’s Kirk Cousins and Fernando Mendoza. So they just drafted Fernando Mendoza as their future quarterback with the number one pick. But they signed Kirk Cousins. So yep this is both of them in the locker room. Kirk Cousins is holding Fernando Mendoza down in the locker room. You like that. You like that. You thought it was your time. You heard big Kirk still ain’t done dumb. You better be to ride the bench for another two years. And we go seven and ten and I make fifty million a year. Uh, so much good stuff there. You like that? You like? That is perfect. Oh my gosh. Because they’re trying to tell us that he’s QB one and like he’s gonna start and all this stuff. Stop it. No, they’re gonna throw Kirk to the wolves for sure. For sure. Well, before we head to the mail room, we have another sponsorship. It’s actually. So you remember, Trevor, when you paid for sponsorship? We talked about colors. I am going to pay for this sponsorship out of my pocket. Love it. I was on a plane flying back home and nobody cares. But I was watching a movie on the flight. Mhm. And we all know about Christopher Nolan, The Odyssey. It’s great reviews. I’m actually pumped to see it. Want to see it? It’s so good. I watched the tenant or the movie tenant again, and, I mean, I rewatched, I was like, I don’t maybe I just missed something. Trevor, what happened in this? Can you explain tenant to me? I can’t. You know why? Because I never watched it. Because everybody was like, this movie is the most confusing thing I’ve ever seen. It is. It’s still to this day, I don’t get it. They’re going backwards from the future into the past. The bullets make sense. It’s going back into the gun. But then they just. They take it too far, Trevor, and you can’t explain it. I’m so devastated that you haven’t seen this movie. You have to see it before our next episode so you can report back. I will report back. And, uh, the bullet goes back in the gun. Is that what you said? Yeah, I’m. I’m not gonna explain it to you. I just watched tenet and let me know. That’ll be the next advertisement. I watched half of it and I put it down. I was like, I still don’t understand what is happening. I just don’t get it. I need an interpreter to tell me. Okay. Tenet. Well, thank you for keeping the lights on for us. And, and I will watch that. I, I’m here to say that Odyssey is incredible and okay, however bad tenet is, that’s how good Odyssey is, so you’ll love it. I’m pumped. I also embezzled funds from the world team and that’s how I paid for this advertisement. But dude, what? I mean, we’re never going to hear from them again. That was a shell corporation of two more Shell Corp’s. Well, welcome to the mail room where we look across the Twittersphere. What do they want to call it? The X sphere. At this point we look for funny clips, things that we, uh, we see from week to week. Trevor, what do you got in the mail room? I’ve got three entries this week. Um, I do have two that go together and then the one to cap it all off. So let’s start with our, our two honorable mentions. We have two more Kenny isms. I feel like we need we need to have some sort of term, maybe Kenny ism. Is it, but some sort of term to capture what Kenny Atkinson, the head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers, when he said analytically, they won the game or the series when they did not. But this has happened so much since then. And like the six weeks since that game, it keeps popping up. So the first one is English football manager Thomas Tuchel, who was the manager at Chelsea. I genuinely really like him. Uh, but after, uh, the English soccer team lost Argentina in the semifinals, he said, today we played one of our best games, maybe our best games. We have no regrets. In other words, analytically they beat Argentina and they’re good. And that was one of the more frustrating games I’ve ever watched, because they tried to park a bus without a bus and it was bad. Uh, next. This one is actually from, uh, the old, uh, lovely ball coach Nick Saban. So he’s been making the rounds stumping for, you guessed it the SEC of course. So he was on Get Up on ESPN and he had this to share. Well I think what first of all, whoever wins the national championship doesn’t define who has the best conference. I think the best conference gets defined by how many good teams do you have from top to bottom. And I think the SEC has a lot of good teams from top to bottom. So forget, you know, playing each other. Forget who actually wins the championship. That doesn’t matter. You know it does matter is if you just look from top to bottom at this conference, that’s what really matters. And you know what, top to bottom, even though they haven’t won a championship and sometime the Big Ten has three straight. The SEC is the best conference. Zak. That’s crazy. They have been. Okay. Respect the SEC right. But they have been so top heavy. For so long it’s been Nick Saban and one other team like Urban Meyer in Florida or Les Miles in LSU. Like there’s always been one other team. But there you look across the SEC West. He just stomped everybody in the SEC. He just he would murder people. It was insane. Which again, to me that makes you the best conference when you’ve got a juggernaut at the top driving the bus. Everyone was on Nick Saban’s coattails. We don’t need to, like, rewrite history or something. But it’s interesting because the Big Ten has had Michigan puke. Ohio State. Hey, Indiana. Okay. And Oregon’s pretty darn good as well. They’ve had their fair share of stuff. So like the last three champions have been different from the Big Ten. I mean to me that shows depth versus Nick Saban just crushing everybody. Absolutely. They’re finally playing nine conference games now so they don’t get to play McNeese state the week before the rivalry game. That’s tough for them. And now that everybody can pay players, it seems kind of different. Anyways. Uh, staying in the SEC though. Our former favorite, but then not favorite, but maybe it’s been so long that now we like him again. Coach LSU’s Lane Kiffin, uh, had a quote that Brett McMurphy, who I don’t care for at all, uh, but tweeted from media day, LSU’s Lane Kiffin quote, we’re all gonna die, end quote. That’s the whole thing. I have no context for that. Maybe it was existential. Maybe it was a threat, I don’t know. But that is my mail room entry of the week. What do you got, Zach? Hey, we’re all gonna die, man. He’s not wrong. Uh, I first have so a little bit of context at PFT commenter says, and this is real. This is, uh, actually a trade between two zoos. It says gorilla trade. The Brookfield Zoo of Chicago is trading two western lowland gorillas, Kamba and Nora, ages twenty and twelve, to the Columbus Zoo for twelve year old Carmina and eight year old Zara. Chicago gets gorilla trade, some bad contracts and really the. The tweet, which I retweeted was from at Dollar Dog Nick and it said the Columbus Zoo is more active at the trade deadline than the Cleveland Guardians. We have a gorilla tree who is tracking this, who is tracking and reporting that. Oh, and then my my last one is from at underdog NFL. Plaxico Burress compared playing with the Jets to prison. They’re both kind of similar because when I walked into prison on my first day, I was like, man, you a loser. And I had the same feeling every day. I walked through the door with the Jets. You a loser. Uh. We love you. We love you, Jets fans. You’re you’re welcome here at Misery Sports Co. Absolutely. The lights are always on for Jets fans. Holy cow. Hey week one Titans Jets let’s go are huge. Okay. Some are saying someone’s getting the bowl. Yep that’s right. We know the real m s c bowl is is Titans. Browns we all know. Oh yeah. Well before we jump into Trevor’s deep dive Trevor who’s our next sponsor. Do you love playing pickup with the boys but get discouraged when they start chirping. You didn’t grow up in a household with brothers, so now your skin is just paper thin. Well, good news because now you can send it right back at him with Luca AI. That’s right. It’s an AI program to chirp like Luka Doncic. He’ll give you great zingers so you can tell your friends, uh, and they, they sent a recording of the Luka AI saying it, but I couldn’t get it to work. So I’m just gonna. Can I do the voice? Is that. Yeah. Why not? AM I allowed to? I don’t know. I’ll just read it. Uh, zingers like, hey, I’m gonna hunt down your family and fry em like I fried Rudy Gobert. Or you guard like Niko ran my team like a bitch with Luka. AI thank you. Luca AI that is that’s the future. That’s why we’re building all these data centers is for this. Yeah. That’s the future, man. That’s right. Well welcome to the deep dive. Every week or most weeks, we take a look at, uh, one team. It could be literally anywhere. It could be in North America. It could be across the world. Trevor, who do you have for us this week? So this week I am venturing out. We’re going world wide. I don’t know that I’ve done one worldwide. You brought us the great Bodo Glimt. Bodo Glimt two. Yeah. Saint Kilda. Yep. Um and so I thought, gosh darn it, Trevor, broaden your horizons. Uh, this team was all over the news. My feed was just full of this team of, uh, about a week ago. And it was exciting stuff. It had intrigue, it had miserable fans. It just fit. And sometimes when we cover teams here, like if you’ll remember, we covered the Seattle Mariners and at the time they were coming off a ALCS appearance against the Blue Jays. So they were they were doing great at the time, but historically those fans were just miserable. And so in that same vein, I would like to talk to you about the County Mayo Gaelic football team. Zach, have you heard of them? Have you heard of Mayo? I have not, I have not, I didn’t come across them. Yep. So Mayo has been in the news. Uh, and I just want to quickly give an overview of Gaelic football because it’s the wildest sport, uh, one of the wildest sports I’ve ever seen. So start with sort of Australian rules football. Like that’s a good starting point. Okay, okay. But we’re not, we’re not playing in like an egg. We’re playing in like a soccer field, more of a soccer field. So, uh, on each end is a soccer goal, like in the middle, which, okay, normal. You get a keeper. Cool. We’re playing with, I would say what looks like a volleyball, but I think is maybe a little bit heavier, like the weight of a soccer ball maybe, but it looks like a volleyball on each goal. On the end of each goal are posts like field goal posts, and they go super high into the air, much like Australian Rules football. So you get both things. You get the giant posts and you get a soccer goal at the bottom. So in this game you can score a goal into the goal you can that has to be kicked. If it gets past the keeper that is worth three points, that’s a goal. Or you can punch or kick a ball through the uprights and that’s one point. Okay, so how do you move the ball around? This is the craziest part. I think of the whole game. You will watch them. So every four steps you take you have to dribble. And you can either bounce it like a basketball. But you’re only you can’t bounce it two times in a row. The next time you go to dribble after four steps, you have to, uh, solo it and solo just like the NBA. Trevor. That’s. Yeah. Okay. All right, hold on now we gotta give him his props on that. Hold on. Thank you. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, we’ll give it up. Uh, so after four steps, you can solo it where you literally are running full speed, drop the ball and then kick it back to yourself. And they’re doing this at like a full sprint. I don’t know how they do it. It’s crazy. Guys are trying to tackle you and steal the ball. Uh it’s wild. You play two thirty minute halves. Uh. There is something I wanted to stop down real quick. I swear I will talk about Mayo, but this sport is just so fascinating to me. They have yellow cards, which makes sense. That’s a warning. A couple of those, you’re out. They have red cards, you get a red card, you’re out. They also have black cards, which kind of reminded me of Muppet Treasure Island, but it’s not the dot. It’s a full black card. If you get a black card, you are sent off, but your team can substitute somebody in your place. So like you have committed a foul. It was egregious. You gotta go. But sure, you can bring somebody one of your five subs on. Whereas red card, you’re just like, you’re gone and you can’t replace them. It’s like a traditional red. I kind of like that. I think there should be something in between yellow and red. How about that? Yeah, I don’t know, maybe like orange, black, black card. Don’t try and mix the colors that make sense. Zach. It’s a black card. Fair enough. So they that is Gaelic football in a nutshell. Lots of guys running around. If you want to pass it to somebody, you can’t just toss it. You have to punch it to them. You have to dropkick it or you have to kick it off the ground like while it’s rolling. So you can’t just toss it to somebody. That’s a foul. Okay, this game has been going on this, uh, all Ireland final of Gaelic football has been going on for a hundred and forty years. It’s been going on a super long time. The fun thing about this is that it’s all of the counties in Ireland. They all have a team and then they face each other in this great big tournament. It’s way more complicated than that. I’m oversimplifying, but like, conceptually that’s what’s going on. And so it’s really just these counties, like, I don’t know the guys who want to play this and are the best at it. Like it’s got a really cool, like homegrown feel. It’s not like these big trades and like moving players. It’s like, if you want to be at the top, maybe you move to these counties. Um, but it’s like the homegrown team. And so you get really passionate fans. Uh, there’s thirty two counties that compete in this and Kerry, Dublin, Galway, Cavan are they just run the league. They just dominate. But there’s this team called Mayo. Uh, that has won had won three championships. They win in nineteen fifty one. And guess what happens, Zak? The best thing. This should also become a staple at MSC. It’s a curse and we love curses because say it with me. Curses are real. You didn’t say it with me. Curses are real. Yeah, and so after they win the fifty one championship, they’re going through town on like this big trailer and they’re waving to everybody and stuff. But there is a funeral procession and the trailer interrupts the funeral procession. No, not. And you know, they were plastered, right? Not a good time to see mourning people. It was bad. So a priest, the freaking priest of all people, comes out and says, guess what? It’s cursing time. It says, you all are cursed. You’re cursed. And this is so serious. This priest dead ass did this. He goes, your team is not going to win another championship until all of you on that team are dead. Oh my gosh. And gone. Like you’re done. And they’re like, okay, now you came in a little hot priest, but really make a great right now. Try to celebrate here. See this trophy bro. Come on. He’s over there just cursing. So that was a nineteen fifty one right? They didn’t make another final until eighty nine. They lost that one. Okay. Well then they make it back in ninety six. Time to break that curse, baby. Nope. They make it back to the final in ninety seven. Nope. In two thousand and four. He’s still two thousand and four, two thousand and six, twenty twelve, twenty thirteen, twenty sixteen twenty seventeen. These are all finals that they make and they’re not winning twenty twenty and twenty twenty one. Holy cow. And they lost every single one of those because that priest chose violence that rainy day in nineteen fifty one. These are every championship. Billy’s been looking at that gun like, do I eat it? Do I eat it? Please. He spins the chambers. Click. Not today, boys. So. If you had guessed Billy was a great guest. Billy is a great guest. There were two members who hung on for ever. Paddy Prendergast he would have been Patty. Patty would have. I felt like he could have maybe got there. If I’d given you two guesses, you would have got to Patty and Mick Loftus. They didn’t die until twenty twenty three, so they were darn near pushing triple digits. They finally died, right? So they finally died in twenty three. And this year, Mayo makes it back to the final. And they’re like, everybody’s dead. This is great. Surely the priest is like, you know what? My criteria were met. I’ll, uh, I’ll give it up. And, uh, I want you to hear what it sounds like. The, this is the, um, final forty five seconds or so of the match. And, uh, we get to hear what happens when Mayo, uh, finally does it. Get it out of there. Get it out of there. Go on. Get that loose. They have. 30s to go. There’s 30s to go. Go to the corner. Hold on. We’re about to score to seal the game. And there it is. It’s Kobe. He’s got Tommy. Tommy gun in for the goal. He’s got Kobe. Yeah, yeah. Tommy Conroy. Oh my God. He sends it over the bar. Oh my God. Delirium. Delirium. They have to get a goal. It’s over. 30s. It’s five seconds ago. The famine is over. It’s finally over. The famine is over. The Kirsty Dam’s hit the nuclear button and they did it! Wow. I. That is the craziest story I think I’ve ever heard. That is absolutely insane. Bonkers. So to the people of Mayo, congrats for, uh, one outliving Patty and two, seeing your team finally break the curse and win your first championship since nineteen fifty one. Well done. Well done. Well, thank you so much, Trevor for the deep dive. Before we go to our midyear review, we will go to our final sponsor. Has your favorite team ripped your heart out? Did your kicker miss? It’s a little unsettling that the entire time he doesn’t make eye contact, not even the first part of. Hey, is this. Are you Zach? I just have some feedback. He just was looking at the ground the whole time. It’s really strange. Yes, sir. It’s in the. It’s in the fine print. I don’t know what you want. Read the contract. You gotta read the contract. No doubt. Yeah. All right, well, let’s hop into our mid-year review. So we’re going to take some time to canvas the landscape of misery sports teams that we have covered. We both got a handful of them and we’re going to rate them. So we’re going to go from zero to one hundred. We’ve rated a few of these teams. And we’ll do this from time to time. So I know the Canucks and the Kings we had done. On the spectrum of sadness. They were kind of in that fifty to sixty range while the Hornets were pushing. One hundred they were pretty darn close and they’re still there. They sent out LaMelo, did they not? They. Yeah, they they shipped him off. Yeah they did. They can’t have good things. Nope. So Trevor, who? Are the, uh, the teams that you would like to give a mid-year review to? So we talked about. Oregon State, um, Oregon State still, I think they landed in Mountain West. So they have a conference. Uh, congrats. But they just don’t have a lot of prospects moving forward. And they’ve been so bad for so long. Uh, I’m going to put them slightly above Sacramento and Vancouver, and I’m gonna give them like a, uh, somewhere in the sixty five to seventy range. I think it’s just if you’re there, it’s really because you love the pain, because the pain is the truth. And they wake up knowing that every day they watch that football team, it’s going to hurt. And that’s what they love. I’ve also got they yeah, they it’s it’s tough up there. I also want to give a shout out to, uh, the Vikings who have been in the news a lot. We’ll put them on the spectrum of sadness. Hey, good news, Viking fans. If you didn’t like the J.J. McCarthy experience, your QB savior waddled in and sat in his little fourth grade desk, and he’s here. Kyler Murray is going to save the day, buddy. Right after he does his arithmetic. So in Call of Duty, he’s going to hit the sticks. Hey, you better pray that that double XP weekend doesn’t happen on a big game. I’m gonna put, um, they’ve had some success, but they have had some big heartbreak. They’ve been so close and, uh, haven’t got it done. So I’m going to put them up. I’m going to put them between the kings and the Beavers. So let’s say that they’re a solid sixty five. And I’ll put the beavers at a seventy five. And again zero is just not miserable at all. Uh, your, I don’t know your, I guess your Knicks fans now, teams that are just on top of the mountain are perpetually good are down there. And teams like the Charlotte Hornets, who are perpetually not good, uh, would get a very high score on our spectrum of sadness. Uh, Zach, which team from this year at MSC are you going to put on the spectrum? So I am going to start with the Washington Wizards. Boy, they have had a rough existence. I don’t know that I’ve known them to have. I’ll say the Washington Wizards were pretty fun with Gilbert Arenas and all the guns they had, but didn’t do a lot of a lot of success. I’m actually going to put them darn near the Charlotte Hornets. I’m kind of leaning toward worse. I you might be right. Honestly, you might be right. You know, if if if Charlotte’s ninety, Washington’s maybe like a ninety two or something like not a lick of success. They had John Wall. Now they have Anthony Davis uh, Trae Young. I mean they have some players, but we all know how ad’s gonna going to turn out. Um, I feel for, for Washington fans, I kind of think it’d be cool if the Wizards, uh, you know, had some level of success because it’s almost like a throwback team. Like I remember I’m in the NBA jam days and stuff. Their logo is cool, but like, the team has been tough to watch. The second team I’m going to cover are the New York Mets. Um, another appearance by the Mets. Not as high as the the Hornets. The Wizards. Um you know they’ve had some level of success. They had a championship in the eighties. They spend money. So they’re trying but they’re still really bad. And so they are I’m gonna put them probably pretty darn close to the Vikings. Um, so not as bad as Oregon State. I’m going to say like in the sixties, sixty five roughly. Um, you know, the owner spends money, it’s just they’re not spending the right money on the right talent. And right now they are brutal. What did I say sixteen, seventeen games behind, you know. Yeah. It’s rough. Yep. But it’s going to make a great story when they come back. Doable. I’m out here slanging hope first hit of this. This hope. Water is free kids. Come on over. That’s some hopium, as the young ones call it. They do call it that. You’re so hip. No cap, Trev. No cap. Oh my God. Oh, jeez. Well, that was the spectrum of sadness. That was that was rating our teams from this year. We will have more teams in the future for our mid-year review, and we will figure out how to post this online as well. We got to figure out, we gotta find one of those hip young interns to put this on the, uh, the interwebs. But we have a graph. We actually did it live and we kind of put it together, so we’ll figure it out. Pretty high tech. It’s a solid half step above Microsoft Paint. Uh, I love Microsoft Paint, man. That’s the level we’re at. It’s pretty good. Well, that is it for this week’s episode at Misery Sports Co. Thank you so much for joining us.
